(PRBuzz) July 28, 2012 -- Homer Hickam's book Rocket Boys has been recognized as an American Classic. It's now more read in schools than To Kill A Mockingbird, in no small part due to the hit movie version starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a young Homer Hickam, learning about life and rockets in his hometown of Coalwood, WV. Soaring to number one on the New York Times best-seller list, the beloved memoir is now Broadway-bound as Rocket Boys The Musical.
Homer, who co-wrote the musical with Broadway veterans Carl Tramon and Diana Belkowski, is returning to the Mountain State for the tale of "singing, dancing coal miners, rockets, fathers, sons and young men's dreams" under the stars at Grandview State Park in Beckley August 1st-16th. Homer has a busy week, also appearing in Charleston at the Southern Legislative Conference and at the Lewisburg Literary Festival.
Homer will be available in studio and via telephone in WV 7/30-8/3 and can discuss:
-His appearance at the huge 15 State Southern Legislative Conference in Charleston alongside other famous West Virginians Jennifer Garner and Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.
-Homer's thoughts on Rocket Boys The Musical, it's shot at Broadway lights and the outdoor show at Grandview State Park in August
