STUART, FLA (PRBuzz.com) January 22, 2013 -- The Veterans Support Organization (VSO) formally announced Paul Demont as the new chapter manager for all of South Florida. Demont will be based in Fort Lauderdale and will oversee efforts in Palm Beach, Broward, Dade, Collier, Lee, and Monroe counties.
"As a Marine, I believe every veteran who has sacrificed for the betterment of the nation deserves to have a job and home," said Demont. "I am hopeful that in the coming months that we will be able to engage the South Florida community to strengthen our organization and improve the lives of veterans."
Demont, a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, achieved the rank of corporal while serving five years of active service and three years as a reserve. During his time in the Marines, Demont was stationed in Hawaii. Originally from Camden, Maine, Demont most recently lived in Cookville, Tenn. where he served as a community support specialist for Community Options, a non-profit that develops residential and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Demont has served as a volunteer firefighter in Tennessee and has taken on the same role in Broward County.
"Paul's background as a veteran and in community service is a great fit for VSO and we are excited about his plans to increase community engagement and the number of veterans we help each year," said Richard VanHouten, CEO of VSO. "Over the past year we have revamped our executive team and chapter managers across the country in order to improve our organization from top to bottom. 2013 is going to be a great year for our organization and the veterans we assist."
The mission of VSO is to help veterans get off the street and into the workforce. Over 70% of donations are invested into the VSO work, housing or gift card program. The programs are designed to assist struggling individuals to get employment and transitional housing that can lead to more permanent opportunities.
