San Francisco, CA (PRBuzz.com) December 11, 2012 -- Microblogging site Tumblr, which features more than 83 million blogs, was hacked by an anti-blogging group that used a cyber worm to deface Tumblr user's pages

The group, known as the Gay Niggers Association of America (GNAA), claimed responsibility immediately, stating that it was engaged in an anti-blogging campaign.

The pages of all of Tumblr's 83.2 million blogs were tagged with an explicit message that opened with "Dearest 'Tumblr' users," and continued on with a rant that claimed that the site was filled with the most "worthless, contrived, bourgeoisie" content on the Web.

Tumblr users logging into their pages were greeted by a message that stated, "This is in response to the seemingly pandemic growth and worldwide propagation of the most f*****g worthless, contrived, bourgeoisie, self-congratulating and decadent bulls**t the internet ever had the fortune of facilitating."

All users of Tumblr were affected by the cyber worm, including high-profile users like USA Today and CNET.

The GNAA message ended with the note, "attempting to delete these posts will delete your tumblr account. But, by all means, go ahead!"

Tumblr informed users of the viral post and requested that if they had "viewed this post, please log out of all browsers that may be using Tumblr immediately."

The company later announced that the issue had been resolved within hours after the cyber worm had been launched and that users could access their pages again.

In a statement to The Guardian, GNAA spokesman Leon Kaiser said, "This was just another part of our 'anti-blogging' campaign. GNAA's stance on blogging in general has always been a negative one: in short, blogging is lowering journalistic standards to the point where the number of friends a murderer has on Facebook has become news.

"Tumblr is a blogging website whose employees we have found, time and time again, put the safety of their users second to their revenue. Instead of hiring competent, dedicated staff, they hire part-time programmers who can't even defend against the most basic of security issues, such as XSS."

In previous attacks, the GNAA hacked into the social network campaign site for the presidential candidate Barack Obama. That attack claimed Jewish persons had been behind the attacks on 9/11. A recent campaign on Twitter caused several media outlets to believe that an organized looting campaign was being conducted in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
