Dr. Elizabeth E. Auger Has Treated Numerous Patients’ Plantar Fasciitis in West Jordan, Salt Lake City and Sandy, UT

Plantar fasciitis is a condition that occurs when the plantar fascia ligament along the bottom of the foot develops tears, resulting in inflammation and intense pain in the area closet to the heel bone. Patients experiencing burning, stabbing or aching pain in the heel of their foot most likely have this condition, and it is imperative that they see a podiatrist. In West Jordan, Salt Lake City and Sandy, UT, Dr. Elizabeth E. Auger has the experience and expertise to diagnose plantar fasciitis and provide effective therapy to her patients.

Factors that contribute to the condition include loss of elasticity of the plantar facial band, the collapse of the longitudinal arch and the valgus (rotation) of the forefoot caused by high arches. All these factors can cause stress to the fascia ligament and on the periosteum, which is the lining of the bone.

Treatment for plantar fasciitis depends on the severity and duration of the pain. Moderate to severe symptoms would require custom orthotics to stabilize the neutral position of the foot. If inflammation is especially severe, a steroid injection would be necessary for reducing both pain and swelling. Resistant cases call for surgery, but traditional treatments are usually all that is required.

Patients experiencing pain from plantar fasciitis can schedule an appointment with Dr. Elizabeth E. Auger by calling (801) 619-2170.
