Stage 2 Kidney Disease - What You Should Know

Kidney Pain Relief

The first two stages of kidney disease are a bit deceptive and hard to understand. The first stage is characterized by normal kidney function and the presence of markers indicating disease could be approaching in the future. Consider this first phase a warning that malfunctioning of the kidney may occur in the future without any guarantee about when or how the disease will progress.

Stage 2 kidney disease involves minor malfunction of the kidney, but the disease is still not progressing at any predictable rate at this point. Once you are diagnosed with stage two kidney disease, your doctor will monitor your health closely to determine when you enter stage three of the disease. If you have strong indicators that your kidney disease will progress and become a life-threatening condition, then your doctor may want to do more extensive testing to help you manage your condition as much as possible.

It is important to keep all of your doctor appointments and follow your doctor's orders once you are diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease. You may not notice direct symptoms of kidney malfunctioning, but your lifestyle may determine how quickly your disease progresses and becomes a threat to your life.

Living with Stage 2 Kidney Disease

It is possible to slow the progression of kidney disease even if you have already reached stage two. Monitor your diet closely to eliminate sugar, saturated fat, trans fat and hydrogenated oils. Try to make meals from combinations of lean protein sources, vegetables, leaves, roots, nuts and whole grains. Refined and heavily processed foods are not the best options for your kidney's health, and this is the time to give your kidney a break.

While protein is healthy for your body, do not go overboard. You want to maintain your muscle tone and develop stronger muscles without overworking your kidney with an extremely high protein diet. In general, try not to eat too much of any one food group.

Reduce your sodium intake by preparing foods at home and not adding salt. Experiment with herbs and spices so you can bring out the natural flavors of your foods. If you can afford organic vegetables and fruits, you will experience enhanced flavor naturally.

Beyond eating a healthy diet, give up cigarettes and start exercising on a daily basis. If you can control your weight and blood sugar, you can keep advanced stages of liver disease as far away as possible.
