ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (PRBuzz.com) August 9, 2013 -- Cary Cowan, CEO of Cowan Financial Group Inc., named president and COO Kathleen Bishop a partner in the St. Augustine-based firm.
Bishop has worked in the finance industry for more than 25 years and holds licenses as a General Securities Principal, Municipal Securities Principal, General Securities Representative and an Investment Advisor Representative. She is also a Chartered Life Underwriter® and a Certified Wealth Strategist®, and is licensed to transact life, health, variable annuity and long term care insurances.
She supervises more than 40 representatives through Cowan Financial Group.

Bishop joined Cowan Financial Group Inc. in 1989 where she worked as an administrative assistant to the chairman and CEO. Then, in 2008, she was elected president and Chief Operating Officer at the firm.
When Bishop isn't advising clients or working in the corporate office, she sits as a member of The American Society of CLU & ChFC, PACE, the Investment Advisory Committee and the National Association of Professional Women. She is also a representative for Cowan Financial Group, Inc. in the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce.
Additionally, Bishop makes time to give back to her community by helping to better local public schools through the St. Johns County Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps support public school programs through scholarships, grants, school supplies and special projects. She currently sits on the Board of Directors, finance committee and serves as vice president of finance.
"Giving back to local schools is so important," said Bishop. "Those kids are the future of our communities, and I am honored to be a part of their growth and education."
Bishop also exercises her passion for wildlife by volunteering for St. Johns Wildlife Care, Inc, where she serves on sea turtle patrol. These volunteers patrol local beaches between May and October marking and evaluating nests for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) for documentation.
