Zika Virus Causes Temporary Paralysis According to New Study

Researchers say a study of Zika infected patients in Tahiti two years ago shows evidence that temporary paralysis can occur. The new research was published Monday in the journal Lancet, online.

WHO (World Health Organization) has recently claimed that Zika virus is a “global emergency” because of its possible connection to the birth defect microcephaly (shrunken head) and Guillan-Barre, a serious  neurological disease.

Zika epidemic is currently moving very quickly across the Americas and will probably reach  the southern United States by this summer, according to health experts.

Before reaching South America last year, the mosquito-spread Zika virus had triggered outbreaks in the South Pacific on Yap island in Micronesia and in French Polynesia, including its largest island, Tahiti.

Researchers in Tahiti, France and elsewhere went back and analyzed blood samples from all 42 adults diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome from the 2013-14 outbreak; nearly everyone showed signs of a previous Zika infection.

Guillain-Barre syndrome occurs after a bacterial or viral infection so the connection to Zika is not that unexpected by researchers. This debilitating disease occurs when the immune system attacks the nervous system and causes muscle weakness and breathing difficulties, about 5 percent of subjects with Guillain-Barre syndrome die from the disease. Of those patients in Tahiti, no one died and 40 percent could walk on their own after 3 months out of the hospital.

Scientists estimated that out of 100,000 infected with Zika, approximately 24 would eventually develop Guillain-Barre syndrome. The usual rate after dengue or flu is one or two per 100,000.

Peter Barlow, infectious disease expert at Edinburgh Napier University said that the connection between Zika and Guillain-Barre is now “substantially more compelling”.

About 40 countries have seen outbreaks of Zika since it showed up last year, 8 of these countries have reported cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome that are possibly connected to Zika.

The CDC has suggested that people in the United States take steps to prevent mosquito infestation and gain control before summer by removing anything on their property that holds stagnant water such as old tires, hubcaps, bottle caps, old dishes, animal water dishes and low lying areas that hold water.

They also recommend that people use mosquito repellents to keep from contracting Zika. Some natural, non-chemical, no DEET repellents that are safe for pregnant women are the following:

Scottsdale, AZ – Jeffrey Lord, author of the new book WHAT AMERICA NEEDS: The Case for Trump, joined the American Monetary Association show and host/founder Jason Hartman for an animated discussion on the upcoming presidential election. Lord is considered a leading expert on everything Donald Trump. His interview with Hartman centered on the likelihood of a Trump presidency and what it would look like.

“Trump built an enormous global organization,” Lord said. “This demonstrates business skills, people skills, management skills, political skills, temperament, persistence, discipline. He’s authored books and run multiple initiatives. This is a very accomplished human being.”

Despite his accolades, Trump has received an even greater share of naysayers than typical Presidential candidates receive. His supporters have experienced a large brunt of that pain too.

“Liberals are supposed to be tolerant,” Hartman mentioned. “They don’t seem very tolerant of Trump supporters.”

Lord told Hartman that hardcore Democrats only tolerate people who do things their way. He provided research on who really supports trump.

“Trump’s supporters are hard-working people who are concerned about the country,” Lord said. “They like Trump because he gets things done, and his past accomplishments support that notion.”

Lord said the criticisms Trump faces for his stances on illegal immigration and national security are unwarranted because he is married to an immigrant and is the son and grandson of immigrants, but, “because he’s white, his detractors don’t recognize this.”

Lord is one of CNN’s main conservative contributors & a contributing editor to The American Spectator. He served as Associate Political Director of the White House to Ronald Reagan in the 1980’s and was an aide to Jack Kemp during the George H.W. Administration.
